Twilight Saga Banned

via LISNews, an article in the Daily Telegraph about some Australian schools banning Twilight.

I find it rather comical because the author of the Twilight saga is herself pretty conservative - aka Bella and Edward don't officially "hook up" until their honeymoon... which promotes the values that this school system seems to be worried about...

Always a newsmaker when this stuff happens, isn't it?

I taught in the Catholic system in Australia, and noted that the CEO of that region wasn't behind it. I think that's important, but given my experience wonder if they might not have been more open to preventing the school from doing so. My school not only supported the anti-Catholic "Northern Lights" triology by Pullman, but our library even had the literary criticism guide which explained all the religious aspects many youngsters wouldn't get.

Rather than banning, I'd rather see such 'controversial' books used to foster dialogue ... which is what Pullman said about his series being banned in some Ontario schools. Something to the affect of: If you don't want people to read my books, then don't talk about it and certainly don't ban it!
